At Abayaaba Porch Light Foundation, we believe that sustainable community development is achieved when women, young people and local communities are empowered with the knowledge, skills and opportunities to shape their own futures.

In coastal and fishing communities, women and youth play vital roles in strengthening community resilience. Women contribute significantly to the fisheries value chain as fish processors, traders and caregivers, while young people represent the future of sustainable livelihoods, innovation and community leadership.

Our Youth & Women’s Empowerment programmes focus on building capacity, promoting inclusion and creating opportunities that improve wellbeing, resilience and participation within the communities we serve.

We recognise that the wellbeing and safety of fishing communities depends on empowering the whole community — including fishers, women, families and young people. Our work therefore combines community education, skills development, safety awareness and locally led solutions that strengthen livelihoods and improve quality of life.

Women in Fisheries Empowerment

Supporting women within fishing communities by recognising their essential contribution to the fisheries value chain and strengthening their capacity through knowledge sharing, improved practices, safety awareness and increased community participation.

Youth Development and Leadership

Creating opportunities for young people to develop confidence, practical skills and leadership abilities, enabling them to become positive contributors and future leaders within their communities.

Fishing Safety and Community Resilience

Working with fishing communities to promote awareness of safety practices, fire safety, emergency preparedness, first aid knowledge and collective responsibility for protecting lives at sea.

Skills Development and Capacity Building

Supporting individuals and community groups through learning opportunities that build practical skills, strengthen resilience and encourage sustainable livelihood pathways.

Inclusive Community Participation

Ensuring women, youth, traditional leaders and community stakeholders are engaged as active partners in identifying challenges, developing solutions and creating lasting community impact.
